half way in (or out)

This blog starts mid-journey, which is appropriate I guess. We have been exploring the thought of the desert – what it means in to go into a desert – an image, a challenge, an adventure. We live on a crowded island, but the story of the desert is a one we often tell. It’s a story of prophets, poets and wars. It’s a story of losing everything to find yourself. It’s a story about meeting your opposite. It’s a thousand and one nights long. It’s the journey of a lifetime.

At our first meeting we followed some rules:

Go on a journey:
Rules for the journey:
• If someone intrigues you, follow them
• If nothing is happening, change direction
• Walk into places you don’t belong
• Introduce yourself to people who don’t expect it
• Sing a song
• Wash something

Bring back six things that are par of where you’ve been:
• One thing that a stranger gives you
• One thing that makes you sad
• One thing that reminds you of childhood
• One thing that is sticky
• One thing that is older than you
• One thing that has a bright future

Not much to do with the desert on the face of it, but a lot about getting lost, trusting someone, getting back out again. Maybe the desert is something just to start us off. What’s important is finding or being a guide. Getting lost and using a story to help you find your way out…
